Relay for Life’s a Big Hit
On September 26th-27th, Team OSR walked all night in support of American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life! It was a very successful night for Team OSR and for the fight against Cancer. We raised around $1,200.Thank you for all of your support!
Congratulations to Kristy Vargas, one of our patients in Gilbert for winning the raffle prize of two tickets to see the Blue Man Group in Las Vegas. Have fun, Kristy!
Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature event that brings more than 3.5 million people from 4,900 communities across the country together each year to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that takes too much.

"Light at the End of the Tunnel"
OSR Patient Success Story
In July of 2007 Rob badly injured his knee and underwent a microfracture procedure. After the surgery Rob was non weight bearing from July to December, which was a difficult time since he was always very athletic and had a high functional level. He remarked, "I spent a lot of time on the couch not doing anything. It was a tough time, I could see my legs atrophying and it just felt like I was wasting away."
Rob received his post-op treatment from another physical therapy clinic, of his experience there he said, "I hardly even got a chance to talk with the therapist; he just didn't have time with so many other patients. I was never asked for input and my routine was never changed to reflect my progress or setbacks. I got bored, plateaued and stopped going. They didn't address the mental side of it...I didn't feel like I had a partner or support staff that was working as hard as I was to get me better."
Rob continued to have significant pain, so in 2008 he underwent a Carticel transplant for cartilage damage. In searching for a different physical therapy clinic then the one he'd previously gone to, Rob found OSR and he's enjoyed his therapy ever since.
When asked about the treatment he was receiving at OSR versus other physical therapy clinics he replied, "They just get you through faster than anyone else. I've been to other clinics where they take you through a basic, regimented set of exercises, but Ryan at OSR was constantly challenging, encouraging and checking up on me to make sure I felt good and was making progress. I felt like other physical therapy clinics just put me through the paces without any regard to the outcome, but from day one Ryan's focus was really to help me get back to the level I was at - his goal was to help me get better.
The hardest part about therapy is the mental part of it - having a therapist who clearly cared about my results has made all of the difference"
Rob's Prognosis
He's pleased with the physical and emotional strides he's made, he said, "I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel now - I thought I was going to be a mess."
Rob's physician told him that he was looking at a tough 18-24 month recovery period, and 18 months was the absolute earliest he should even consider being released. But at the end of only 12 months of treatment working with Ryan at OSR Physical Therapy, Rob's physician was so pleased with his progress that he's asked if Rob feels he's ready to be released. Rob's prognosis is very good and he is looking at a full functional return.
PS - If you enjoyed Rob's story and would like to see more inspirational OSR patient stories included in future newsletters, or if you are a current or even past OSR patient and you'd like to share you story please let us know!
